Getting set up for our broadcast in association with Jazz Uk and their preview of the #4Jazz Festival in Coventry. Al Gurr on keys, Dave Balen (out of shot) on drums. Corey Mwamba was also in the house!

They asked me to select one track as an example of an ‘influencing artist’.  Where do you start?

In the end I plumped for ‘Walk On The Wild Side’ by Jimmy Smith and Oliver Nelson. I used to hear it every weekend as the theme tune for Jack Jackson’s Record Roundabout (or Roundup). It was only a brief excerpt, but I was hooked on the sound of the jazz orchestra and the Hammond B3. When I finally got to hear the whole track it blew me away – and still does.
